449. Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen

I've been in the mood for lighter and lower alcohol beers the last few days, but my fridge has only high alcohol beers. This was purchased at Downtown Wine & Spirits along with various quadrupels. I let this warm slightly and served it in my NERAX pint glass.
Beer Stats:
Brewery: Privatbrauerei Franz Inselkammer KG / Brauerei Aying
Alcohol: 5.6%
Serving: Bottle, 500 mL
Style: Märzen / Oktoberfest, BJCP Style Guide
Appearance (4.0): Pours a clear copper with a creamy, fluffy, off-white head that thins to a shiny half-inch layer, which remains throughout most of the beer.
Smell (4.0): Predominantly malty in the nose. There are bready, caramel and toffee notes, as well as a hint of fruitiness and a light leafy hop aroma.
Taste (4.0): Strong toasty and bready malt flavors are evident upfront. There's a light fruity sweetness in the center that fades to a nice leafy hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel (4.0): Light-bodied, moderate carbonation, with a nice, lightly dry finish.
Drinkability (4.0): Light and easy to drink, but very flavorful.
Overall (4.0): A nicely done Oktoberfest, a perfect match for the cooling temperatures.

390. Ayinger Bräu Weisse

I purchased this tonight at Downtown Wine & Spirits along with a few other bottles. I'd already made a trip to a liquor store for beer this week. However, after working in lab for 17 hours yesterday, sleeping on the couch in my advisor's office and getting up early today I figured it was worth it. I chilled this in the fridge and served it in my UFO Weizen glass.
Beer Stats:
Brewery: Privatbrauerei Franz Inselkammer KG / Brauerei Aying
Alcohol: 5.10%
Serving: 500 mL
Style: Hefe Weizen, BJCP Style Guide
Appearance (4.0): Pours a cloudy golden with a thick creamy white head that collapses to a thin quarter-inch layer.
Smell (4.0): Very yeasty with notes of bubble-gum, banana, clove and citrus. There are also grainy and spicy aromas.
Taste (3.5): Sweet upfront, with spicy cloves in the center and a citric and grainy finish.
Mouthfeel (3.5): Light-bodied, moderate carbonation with a crisp finish.
Drinkability (4.0): Very refreshing, especially given the current weather.
Overall (3.75): This is a good beer, but not my favorite Hefe.

347. Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel

Lately I've been mostly sticking to Ales, so tonight I decided to have a lager. I picked up a bottle of Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel on recognition of the brewery, which also produces the delicious Celebrator Doppelbock. The name translates to "Old Bavarian Dark Beer". I let this warm to around 45º F, and served it in my Harpoon UFO Weizen glass, the closest thing to appropriate glassware that I had. This beer is a Munich Dunkel Lager. BJCP Style Guide.
Appearance (3.5): Pours a clear ruby brown with a flufft beige head that dissipates slowly. Large bubbles rise slowly to the top.
Smell (4.0): The nose is rich and malty, with notes of caramel and toffee. Very nice.
Taste (3.5): Sweet caramel upfront, with a slight tartness rolling through the center. There's an understated and lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. The bitterness could be a little more pronounced and still give a well-balanced beer.
Mouthfeel (3.0): Tingly carbonation on the tip of the tongue. The beer seems a tad watery for being medium-bodied.
Drinkability (4.0): Smooth, malty and easy to drink.
Overall (3.6): This is a fairly well-balanced (more hop bitterness would be nice) and tasty beer. It's good for the style, which happens to not be a favorite of mine.
